Cancel RIMPAC !

On Sunday August 16, Golden Rule sailed off of Waikiki Beach in coordination with the 80-car caravan organized by the Cancel RIMPAC Coalition.

RIMPAC, or Rim of the Pacific, takes place every two years and is the largest Naval war practice in the world. This year, due to Covid19, the exercise was shortened from 6 weeks to 2 weeks and the number of countries participating went down from 26 to 10. However, those of us in the Cancel RIMPAC Coalition want it permanently canceled!

Captain Kiko Kitazawa, Project Manager Helen Jaccard, and crew Barbara Cooney and Pete Doktor crewed Golden Rule while Kate Thompson took pictures of Golden Rule with Diamond Head in the background.

These actions and missions of Cancel RIMPAC Coalition, Veterans For Peace, and the Golden Rule Project were mentioned on Hawai’i News Now during their Sunrise show as well as their noon newscast today!

From Cancel RIMPAC Coalition:
O’ahu showed up! 80+ vehicles joined our convoy from Sand Island to Pearl Harbor to Waikīkī, calling to #CANCELRIMPAC and demilitarize Hawai’i.

Today marks the beginning of RIMPAC 2020. Today we hold space in our hearts for Kanaloa (God of the Ocean), being bombed and blasted in this year’s “at-sea-only” exercises. Today, we mourn for the people who have been sacrificed for war and imperialism. Today we dream of a sovereign, independent Hawai’i. Today we honor sacred ‘āina that has been scarred for the sake of the US military. Today we fight for our women who have been harmed by gendered violence at the hands of the military. Today, and every single day, we say NO to US imperialism, NO to the militarization of Moana Nui, and NO to RIMPAC!

Mahalo (Thank you) to @karaokecomputer, @bigbigbigthings, @laulani_tea and @nakagrandi for the photos. @ Oahu, Hawaii

Refuse Fascism and the Cancel RIMPAC coalition dropped banners from freeway overpasses and placed dozens of Cancel RIMPAC signs around O’ahu, too!
