Against the Wind Festival a big hit in Arcata!

Dedicated supporters organized a pro-peace / anti-nuclear community educational event and fundraiser for the Golden Rule Project.

The idea started when Jack Irvine discovered that Albert Bigelow, first captain of the Golden Rule, starred in a play, “Which Way the Wind”, in 1959 and 1960. The play is about the threat of nuclear weapons and war. Like the Golden Rule, the play sank from public view for over 50 years.

Irvine got permission from American Friends Service Committee to re-stage the play. Other supporters came along to create “Against the Wind”, a week of activities including an art show, a night of protest songs, a panel discussion and three performances of “Which Way the Wind”.

“Against The Wind” was a huge success!

Festival organizers accomplished their goals of raising money for the Golden Rule Project (nearly $15,000!) and provided information and inspiration to Humboldt Bay communities on important issues of nuclear threats to all living things.

A complete recap of “Against the Wind Festival” is on our web site. For more information, please see againstthewindfestival.org. The organizers encourage others to follow in their footsteps to host their own Against the Wind Festivals! Against the Wind Festival Report.
