On August 2 the annual Parade of (Navy war) Ships will arrive in Elliott Bay in downtown Seattle and a flotilla of peace boats will be there to provide a contrasting message. The Peace Fleet will be bigger than normal this year, as the Golden Rule inspires people to challenge the idea of war ships coming to our public festivals like Seafair. These ships and other military recruiting tools like the Blue Angels normalize the weapons of war, and indeed, war itself. It costs over a million dollars to bring these ships into Puget Sound – not a good way for our tax dollars to be spent!
