Join us for a powerful and moving commemoration as we remember the victims of the Castle Bravo nuclear test on March 1, 1954 and all nuclear victims. This event marks the 71st anniversary of the largest nuclear weapon ever tested by the United States—a test that exposed the Marshall Islands to devastating radioactive fallout.
This nuclear bomb had a yield over twice what the scientists expected and the wind blew the fallout over populated Marshall Islands. The radiation left a population affected then and now by birth defects, cancers, and the inability to grow food and eat the fish.
Remembering All Nuclear Victims
On March 1 each year we remember the victims of radiation – from the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs, uranium mining/milling/processing, nuclear weapons testing and depleted uranium use.
The Golden Rule’s Connection
As the public became aware of the radiation caused by nuclear weapons testing, the Golden Rule’s original crew set sail in 1958 to interfere with the testing and raise public awareness.
As we gather on the balcony overlooking the Golden Rule in Humboldt Bay, we’ll reflect on the boat’s historic mission and its ongoing commitment to nuclear abolition.
